India has 1 crore people living with dementia.
Only 1 in 10 receive a diagnosis or care.

Dementia India Alliance exists to change that —
Urgently and Collectively.

We are a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Bengaluru, India — uniting people living with dementia and Alzheimer's, their families, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers under one national platform. Because no one should face this alone.

Founded in 2023. Dementia India Alliance was born from lived experience and hard-won expertise. We were founded by organizations with decades of frontline experience in dementia care — and by family carers who have walked the most difficult road of all: caring for someone they love through every stage of this illness.

We know what families need because we have been those families. We know what care looks like because we have delivered it for decades. Dementia India Alliance brings both together.

Dementia India Alliance is a NGO working for the welfare of Persons with Dementia and Alzheimer's and their Family Caregivers

A Silent Epidemic. And India is not Ready

A DIA staff screening an elderly man

Dementia is rising rapidly across India — and the systems meant to support those affected are nowhere near ready. Behind every statistic is a family navigating loss, exhaustion, and isolation, often entirely on their own.

India is facing one of the fastest-growing dementia burdens in the world — driven by an ageing population, rising risk factors, and decades of neglect in mental health infrastructure. Yet dementia and Alzheimer's remain widely misunderstood, frequently dismissed as normal ageing, and almost entirely absent from national health policy.

When a person is diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's their family becomes their care system. India has virtually no formal community-based dementia care infrastructure. Families step in not by choice, but because there is no alternative.
